His Divine Grace Srimad Bhaktisundar Sanyasi Goswami Maharaj, the present President and Acharya of the Gaudiya Mission (India & Abroad), is the sixth Acharya in the spiritual succession of Jagadguru Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupad, the founder-Acharya of the Gaudiya Math and Mission. Born in 1959 into a Vaishnav family, Srila Gurudev became associated with the Gaudiya Mission at the young age of 14 During his teenage years, he received his Harinaam Initiation in 1972 and Brahman Diksha in 1976 from Srila Bhakti Keval Audulomi Maharaj, one of the eighteen sannyasi disciples of Srila Prabhupad and the then Acharya of the Mission. Deeply inspired by the teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Srila Gurudev fully dedicated himself to the service of Lord Sri Krishna, upholding a life of strict brahmacharya. He spent six years at Sri Vyas Gaudiya Math in Kurukshetra, a place where Lord Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita. Through his deep study and realization of the Bhakti Shastras, he was conferred the title “Bhakti Shastri.” In 1986, during the quincentenary celebration of the Divine Appearance of Sriman Mahaprabhu, Srila Gurudev accepted the renounced order of life (Sannyasa) from Srila Bhakti Srirup Bhagavat Goswami Maharaj, an esteemed disciple of Srila Prabhupad and the then Acharya of the Gaudiya Mission. Due to his profound understanding of Vaishnav philosophy, he is crowned as “Guru Goswami Thakur.”
Srila Gurudev dedicated 12 years maintaining the Sannyasa order of life at Sri Sanatan Gaudiya Math in Varanasi, Kasi Tirtha, the holy abode of Lord Shiva. From 1995 to 2018, Srila Gurudev served as the General Secretary of the Gaudiya Mission, providing tireless spiritual leadership for over 25 years. His profound devotion and insightful preaching have carried the divine message of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu across the globe, including to the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, Germany, Bangladesh, and many other countries. In 2007, under his divine initiative, Gaudiya Math was established in Rochester, New York, further strengthening the Mission’s global presence. Srila Gurudev has not only spread spiritual teachings but has also taken responsibility for constructing and restoring several temples worldwide, including in the USA, Mumbai, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Vrindavan, Radhakund, and Nabadwip. His visionary plan to establish a museum dedicated to Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu—the first of its kind—reflects his deep desire to share the life and teachings of the Lord with the world. In 2018, Srila Gurudev became the President and Acharya of the Gaudiya Mission. Led by his holy guidance, the Gaudiya Mission celebrated its centenary from 2016 to 2018, an event inaugurated by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
Under Srila Gurudev’s divine leadership, the 150th Appearance Anniversary of Srila Prabhupad was observed as a historic three-year-long celebration, filled with devotion and national recognition. The auspicious journey began on 22nd February 2022 in Puri, with a grand inauguration ceremony attended by His Excellency, the former President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind ji, who formally marked the beginning of the tribute. As the celebrations continued across India and abroad, a significant moment took place on 8th February 2024, when the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi ji, honored Srila Prabhupad’s legacy by releasing a 150th commemorative coin and postal stamp in Delhi at Bharat Mandapam. The celebrations concluded with great dignity on 28th February 2025, in the presence of the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar ji, who attended the closing ceremony, marking the successful completion of this sacred occasion.
In addition to these remarkable milestone, Srila Gurudev’s efforts continue to shape future generations through the noble educational project, Gaudiya Mission Vidya Mandir, in Nadia district, West Bengal. This ongoing school project stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to nurturing values of devotion, discipline, and spiritual wisdom. Since 2018, His Divine Grace has led the Gaudiya Mission as Acharya, touching countless souls worldwide through his teachings, guidance, and tireless dedication to Srila Prabhupad’s legacy.
